The Japan based leading car maker Nissan Motors is planning to export its portfolio cars to the markets like Middle East from its facilities in the Indian market. The news came after company’s production was completely halted at its Thailand based plant, from where the company exports a considerable number of cars to the overseas markets. The recent devastating floods in the Thai market left the production at Nissan’s plant in the country completely disrupted.
While speaking to the reporters on the side lines of Tokyo Motor show on Thursday, Nissan Motor Co Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga said, “We are studying to utilize capacities in India to export to other countries like the Middle East. There is a possibility of that. He added, "Besides, our capacity in Thailand is full. Now there is no room to export from Thailand." |
In India, Nissan has a joint manufacturing facility with its global partner French car maker Renault in Chennai. The massive Chennai based facility of Nissan-Renault has a total manufacturing capacity of 4 lakh cars per annum. Both partners have committed an investment of 4,500 crore for setting-up this plant in Chennai.
In the words of Mr. Shiga, "We have a big plant in Chennai... We are exporting a lot. With small car Micra, we will expand to more countries like the Middle East."
The leading Japanese car makers like Nissan Motors are shifting their focus to the rapidly growing markets like India, as the Japanese market is gradually losing its competitiveness with sales volumes continuously going down.

Anna Nagar Arch to Nelsonmanickam road Flyover:
The flyover will consist of two independent L-shape structures having two-lanes each. One structure will begin on Poonamallee High Road near Anna Arch and end on Nelson Manickam Road to enable vehicles moving towards Nelson Manickam Road from Anna Nagar III Avenue and from Koyambedu. The second structure will begin along Poonamallee High Road near Nelson Manickam Road and end in front of Government Siddha Hospital on Anna Nagar III Avenue,'' highways department sources told TOI.
The project also includes a vehicular subway at Anna Arch for vehicles moving from Anna Nagar III Avenue and moving towards Koyambedu.
Erode-based Periyasamy and Chinnasamy group will build the new facility. "While Rs 68 crore will be spent on construction works, the remaining Rs 49 crore has been allotted for land acquisition,'' the sources added.
As vehicle population and traffic congestion on the stretch from Anna Arch to Aminjikarai has increased enormously, traffic police have already restricted right turn for vehicles moving from Nelson Manickam Road to Poonamallee High Road. But the restriction has only resulted in increase in congestion at the Anna Arch signal. Presently, about 1.30 lakh vehicles move on Poonamallee High Road every day.

Chennai Bangalore Highway
|
Road travel time between Chennai and Bangalore will reduce significantly in the next couple of years even as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is widening the entire stretch as a six lane.
It has already awarded two contracts in this stretch and now plans to award the third one.
Public-private model
NHAI will widen the present ‘carriageway' (double lane) stretch between Poonamallee and Walajapet under the public-private partnership.
The widening of the 93-km road will cost nearly Rs 930 crore, according to the NHAI.
The authority has issued a tender calling private operators to bid for the project on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.
The Poonamalle-Walajapet stretch forms the main and preferred road connectivity between Chennai and Bangalore (distance of around 350 km) and catering to both commercial and passenger movement between the two cities.
While it takes more than five hours between Chennai and Bangalore, crossing Poonamallee is the toughest being very congested due to the presence of various commercial establishments on the either side of the road. |
