High Court asks Chennai Corporation to demolish two temples for encroachment
The first bench of the court on Tuesday asked the Chennai corporation to issue show cause notice and take steps to raze them. Chief Justice A.K. Ganguly and Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla passed the order, while disposing of a public interest write petition filed by social activist Traffic K.R. Ramasamy.
In the petition, Traffic Ramasamy contended that the temples one adjacent to the main entrance of the high court, and the other at the NSC Bose road - Armenian Road junction had been built encroaching the pavement. They obstructed pedestrian movement and adversely affected the free flow of traffic in the area.
The bench said the corporation must take steps to issue notice to the temple authorities and take further action after hearing them. If they; appear before the civic body pursuant to the notice.
